Depending on the sample material and subsequent analysis, grinding inserts and tools of different materials may be used:

  • Cast iron:
    Low-priced option

  • Hardened steel:
    Particularly suitable for grinding abrasive materials (like slag).

  • Stainless steel:
    With its superior characteristics (like high corrosion resistance) it is suitable for most sample materials.

  • Steel 1.1740:
    For heavy-metal-free grinding a combination of cast iron and steel 1.1740 is recommended.

The cyclone-suction combination is recommended for the homogenization of low density materials as the air jet which is generated improves discharge of the sample from the grinding chamber. 

Moreover, the sample is cooled which is particularly beneficial for heat-sensitive materials.
